As an immigration attorney, you aim to represent your clients as best you can when offering legal aid to foreign nationals. To increase your knowledge and expertise, the SVMA offers enrichment courses, workshops, expert meetings, lectures, and excursions.

In addition, the SVMA offersyou a sounding board for sharing your knowledge with other members. Knowledge and expertise are also shared with foreign colleagues, for which the SVMA organizesexcursions.

Furthermore, the SVMA is regularly invited to share its vision on a varietyof policies on immigration law and to participate in discussions with, among others, the Netherlands Bar Association (NOvA), the Council forthe Judiciary (RvdR) and the Legal Aid Board (RvR). Furthermore, one SVMA board member is also a member of the board of the Foundation for Immigration Law in the Netherlands.

Training activities

The SVMA organizessmall-scale enrichment courses, workshops, expert meetings, and lectures for members a couple of times per year which are free of charge if possible.

The enrichment coursesand workshopsare sometimes taught by professional tutors, who represents their university, and sometimes given by our own members who are specializedin a particularfield of immigration law. For the expert meetings, we invite for example immigration judges and policy officials of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

Every year, during the General Assembly in June, the SVMA invites interesting speakers to shine their light on one of the subjects within immigration law. We were happy to welcome MrF.
